The aim of the present study is to conduct a focused review on the wear behavior of PEEK composites. The selection conditions for this article were: research papers focused on the mechanical behavior of PEEK composites. Results showed the addition of reinforcement into PEEK to improve the wear behavior although some of those fillers can increase the weakness of the composite. Further, the inclusion of carbon fiber increased considerably the mechanical strength of PEEK composites. Indeed, the chemical composition, microstructure and properties of the fillers can affect the wear performance of PEEK composites. This exposes a great challenge in this field leading to novel development to increase the mechanical strength of PEEK composites. A potential reinforcement has to be manufactured to improve the mechanical strength. Alternative way could be to carry out a surface treatment in the particles in order to increase the adhesion between matrix and filler. (c) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
