The piezoelectric properties of materials attracted significant attention in several areas. In this paper, the influence of the piezoelectric properties on the SH-waves propagating in three piezoelectric plates is investigated. An orthogonal method namely Legendre polynomial is presented to study the SH-waves propagating in PZT-5H, PMN-0.33PT and PMN-0.29PT piezoelectric plates. In fact, formulations are given for open-circuit surface. The validity of this polynomial approach is illustrated by comparison with available data obtained from the Peano series expansion method. Furthermore, the convergence of the Legendre polynomial method is discussed through a numerical examples for the SH wave propagation in the PZT-5H plate. The effects of piezoelectric e(kij) and dielectric epsilon(ki) constants on the SH dispersion curves are highlighted. The SH-waves characteristics in multilayered structures PMN-0.33PT/PMN-0.29PT with different stacking sequences and volume fractions are studied. The shear horizontal (SH) wave presented in this work provides a number of attractive properties for use in sensing and signal processing applications. (C) 2017 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
