A novel designation of an all optical lof 2 demultiplexer (D-mux) based on silicon rods in the air, created by two dimensional (2-D) square lattice photonic crystals (PhCs), is proposed and illustrated. The structure comprises five different ports including; a selection line S, an input data port A, and three output data ports, Q(0), Q(2) and Q(2). Photonic band gap (PBG) evaluations and electric field distributions are accomplished by plane wave expansion (PWE) and finite difference time domain (FDTD) methods, respectively. As electric field distributed, power levels lower than 0.4P(0) are considered as 0 logic value and higher than 0.4P(0) as 1 logic value. When S = 0, the data of port A, is directed to Q(0) and when S = 1, is directed to Q(1); thus the structure functioning as a D-mux. The device is applicable for all optical processors and integrated circuit. It can also be used in integrated wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical systems. (C) 2017 Elsevier GmbH.
