Nuclear structure corrections of orders Z alpha E-F and (Z alpha)E-2(F) are calculated for the hyperfine splitting of the muonic deuterium. The obtained results disagree with previous calculations and lead to a 5 sigma disagreement with the current experimental value of the 2S hyperfine splitting in muonic deuterium.
