The paper is devoted to taxonomical revision of Cerioporus (Polyporus) squamosus (Basidiomycota, Agaricomycetes, Polyporaceae) using of comparative-morphological analysis as well as ITS rDNA data set. A separate species, Cerioporus rangiferinus was restored on the basis of analysis of ITS divergence and ecological and morphological features. An epitype of Boletus rangiferinus was described on authentic authors' material and new combination in Cerioporus genus was made. This restored species is characterized by ramified stipe covered with umbrine to blackish thick cuticle and a tendency to pileus reduction. The pilei in C. rangiferinus are nail-shaped to spathulate in outline in contrast with wide reniform pilei of C. squanzosus. The spore variability spectra are overlapping in C. rangiferinus and C. squamosus. Both species show a tendency to largest spore formation in terminal stages of tube maturation. It was assumed that speciation of C. rangiferinus can be result of certain specialization to buried wood colonization.
