As a basic component for the setup of a digital twin of the working process, the dynamic model of a machine tool, the Mandelli M5, is developed in this paper. The main features of the model are the FEM based description of the structural flexibility of the components of the kinematic structure, the model of the cutting process and the model of the transmission chains and of the control systems. The model has been experimentally validated with respect to the motion dynamic behavior. (C) 2018, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
