Statistical Analysis of Residents' Degree of Support for Three Solid Waste Management Policies in Hong Kong

Cluster analysis was used to segment Hong Kong residents based on their degree of support towards three proposed waste management policies (waste charge, landfill extension and building new incinerator). Three to four clusters were obtained. One cluster of residents is less likely to support the waste charge policy because they tend to have low income. One or two clusters of residents are less likely to support landfill extension and the building of new incinerator policies because they tend to live near the landfill and incinerator sites. The last cluster of residents has a high degree of support towards all three policies. This cluster tends to be wealthy and less likely to live near the landfill and incinerator sites.
