Ensuring the cutting stability is essential for achieving required dimensional accuracy and high-quality surface of the machined parts. A particularly demanding case is machining using cutting tools with long overhang, due to the possibility of self-excited chatter vibrations, affecting both on the workpiece surface and faster tool wear. Determining the ranges of stable machining can be carried out using the stability lobes, allowing for the selection of the machining parameters, where chatter vibrations do not occur. The objective of the research is to develop an algorithm enabling effective correction of machining parameters of a CNC lathe, which allows to increase the range of cutting stability for machining with slender tools. The work presents the procedure for determining the dynamic properties of the tool system, determining the ranges of stable machining and the selection of cutting parameters. Then the Assistant of Machining Parameters Selection implemented into the FANUC CNC control system and experimental validation is presented.
