Concept-Focused In-Class Demonstrations for Teaching Embedded System Design in Large Classes

Ask authors/readers for more resources

This work-in-progress paper reports on-going work in employing short, concept-focused and interactive in-class demonstrations and blended learning resources aimed at enhancing students' learning experience in large Electrical Engineering classes. The proposed blended instructional mode is currently being experimented in a second-year undergraduate course on Embedded System Design with more than 200 students. Interactive in-class demonstrations are employed to enhance smooth transition between concepts covered in lectures and hands-on lab activities while increasing student engagement and enthusiasm via immediate practical visualization of theoretical concepts taught. Educational goals, implementation details, and demonstrative examples are presented along with qualitative student feedback and on-going and future work.
