Mitochondrial transplantation is a novel therapeutic intervention to treat ischemia/reperfusion related disorders. In this review, we provide mechanistic and histological studies in large animal models and present data to show clinical efficacy in human patients. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier B.V.
