In this proof of concept study, the Bronsted acidic ionic liquids with NO3- and [B6H7](-)-based anions ignited spontaneously upon contact, suggesting a possible route to replace the combinations of a HNO3 (or N2O4) oxidizer and hydrazine-based fuel as bipropellants.
