Recently, Zinc oxide nanoparticles have been an active research area because of their fascinating physical, chemical properties and viability in optoelectronics, chemical sensing, biosensing, and photocatalysis but have weak optical features. Optical properties can be tuned by doping. In this review paper, doping of ZnO nanoparticles using distinct dopants by various techniques, respective changes in properties and feasible applications were discussed. The aftermath of this review indicates that doping modifies the characteristics of ZnO nanoparticles and enhances its suitability for various fields such as optoelectronics, gas sensing and photocatalysis.
