In this work, interpenetrating network micro-beads were formulated by using two biopolymers such as gellan gum and PVA using zinc chloride and glutaraldehyde (GA) as cross-linker. Aceclofenac (AC) was used as a model drug. Micro-beads were evaluated by the drug entrapment efficiency (DEE), in-vitro release and characterized by FT-IR, FESEM and EDX techniques. FT-IR study showed that chemically compatible between drug and polymers. Spherical shaped of IPN micro-beads were observed under FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscope). This novel gellan gum/PVA micro-beads system as a promising carriers for the delivery of drug for prolong period. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
