Highly crystalline mesoporous gamma-MnS nanospheres were prepared through a facile one-step hydrothermal method. The obtained gamma-MnS nanospheres were around 1 mu m in diameter and assembled from nanoparticles. The mesoporous gamma-MnS nanospheres were investigated as anode materials for lithium ion batteries with excellent cycling stability and reversible capacity. In detail, at a current density of 200 mA g(-1), the discharge capacity of mesoporous gamma-MnS nanospheres remained at 350 mAh g(-1) after 300 cycles.
