Herein, ultrasmall MnO nanoparticles encapsulated by nitrogen-rich doped carbon matrix hybrids are synthesized by annealing ethylenediaminetetraacetic manganese [Mn-2(EDTA)] precursors for the first time. The resulting MnO@NDC composite exhibits excellent rate capability and outstanding cycling stability as an advanced anode material for lithium-ion batteries.
