A novel partially-coupled modal contribution assumption is presented in this paper. The partially-coupled assumption is theoretically presented, and it is proved to be more reasonable according to the law of conservation of energy compared with the traditional decoupled and coupled assumptions. The proposed method is applied to analyze a complex engineering structure. Based on the partially-coupled assumption, the dominant noise-contribution mode (DNCM) is identified at each frequency. The DNCM method is more effective in determining the most significant mode which makes the noise control more precise. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
