A series of (Gd,A)(2)(Zr,B)(2)O-7 samples bearing various amounts of complex TRPO waste (0, 25 and 40 wt%) were irradiated with 0.5 MeV He2+ ions at fluences ranging from 1 x 10(14) to 1 x 10(17) ions/cm(2). All the irradiated samples transformed from pyrochlore to disordered fluorite structure with micro-swelling. The irradiation tolerance of the (Gd,A)(2)(Zr,B)(2)O-7 solid solutions weakened with increased TRPO waste content. However, no obvious amorphization was observed even in ceramics bearing the highest amount of TRPO waste. Raman spectroscopy revealed that the vibration frequencies of the atomic bonds changed, and the bands became broader due to irradiation induced disorder.
