Various particle size wood fibers (WF) were used to enhance poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) in preparing PVC/WF composite foam. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution and 3-triethxysilyl-1-propanamine (KH-550) as surface treatment reagents were used to modify WF. The modified WF was characterized by FT-IR. The PVC/modified WF composite foam were prepared via the one-step compression molding. The structure and properties of PVC/modified WF composite foam were studied. The tensile strength of PVC/WF foam increased with the particle size of WF decreasing. When the particle size of WF was 120 mesh, the tensile strength of PVC/WF foam reached the maximize value (1.04 MPa). Compared to KH-550 treatment, the results showed that the PVC/WF composite modified by 15% NaOH/WF could get the best performance. The density of PVC/15% NaOH modified WF composite foam decreased from 215.4 kg/m(3) to 102.2 kg/m(3) and the tensile strength enhanced by 112%.
