beta-Estradiol residue in water is very dangerous and unacceptable due to its endocrine disturbing and carcinogenetic nature. Therefore, fast, effective and eco-friendly removal method of beta-estradiol is described from water. The maximum removal of beta-estradiol from water was 82% with 600 mu g L-1 amount of 17-beta-estradiol, 60 min agitation time, 6.0 g L-1 amount of functionalized iron nano particles, 11.5 pH and 25 degrees C temperature. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed the spontaneous and exothermic uptake of 17-beta-estradiol. The uptake of 17-beta-estradiol followed first order reaction and the mechanism of uptake was through liquid film diffusion. The supra-molecular mechanism of beta-estradiol interaction with functionalized iron nano particles is described. The reported method is fast, effective and eco-friendly and can be applied for the uptake of beta-estradiol from water at laboratory, pilot and industrial levels in any water system.
