The present study aims to analyse the presence of Gli Ecatommiti (1565), by G.B. Giraldi Cinzio, and its partial translation into Spanish, Primera parte de las cien novelas de M. Juan Baptista Giraldo Cinthio (1590), by Luis Gaitan of Vozmediano, in Los trabajos de Persiles y Sigismunda, by Cervantes. It consists of two clearly differentiated parts: in the first, a description is made of both the structure of Gli Ecatommiti and the Castilian version, the influence that they might have had on Cervantes' posthumous novel is reviewed in a general way. Additionally it provides new information on Luis Gaitan, whom Cervantes might have met personally. The second part establishes a detailed analysis of the intertextual dialogue between the novella II, 8 by Gli Ecatommiti and the episode of the double weddings of the fishermen (Persiles, II, XI and XIII) is offered.
