This article reports on the frequency upconversion property of yellow light emitting Ho3+-Yb3+ embedded tungsten tellurite (TeO2-WO3) glass prepared by the famous melt-quench technique. Holmium activated TeO2WO3 glass gives efficient visible and near-infrared upconversion luminescence upon 980 nm excitation, which improved via the incorporation of Yb3+ ions. The upconversion process was examined by a pump power dependence study that revealed the involvement of a single photon for upconversion emission around 886 nm whereas two pump photons needed for the other emissions. The observed single and/or two photon upconversion feature is discussed with the help of a luminescence decay study and energy level diagram of the embedded ions.
