In the present study, the removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution have been studied by using a newly prepared biosorbents from Spirulina platensis (SP). SEM-EDX, FTIR and XRD analyses of the biosorbents have been reported. Langmuir monolayer adsorption capacity of ultrasonic assisted SP (UASP) for Cu(II) ions (817.7 mg/g) was found to be higher as compared with raw SP (RSP) and sulphuric acid modified SP (SMSP). Adsorption kinetics and isotherms of Cu(II) ions onto UASP followed the pseudo-first order and Freundlich models. Adsorption process was measured as exothermic and spontaneous in nature. UASP showed higher affinity for Cu(II) ions. (C) 2017 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
