A new model was developed in this paper for smart operation of a microgrid powered by a non-dispatchable solar unit interacting with a reserve electricity market. Other components of the microgrid are a battery, microturbines, interruptible and uninterruptible loads. A 24-hr schedule was considered for participating in day-ahead reserve electricity market. The objective function was formulated aiming at profit maximization subjected to corresponding constraints. The problem was solved by a well-known particle swarm optimization algorithm and the obtained results verified the effectiveness of the algorithm
