This paper introduces an enhanced current-based maximum power point tracking (CMPPT) scheme to search the maximum power point (MPP) for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The suggested MPPT scheme employed a current perturb and observe (CP&O) with predictive current controller based on an adaptive sliding mode observer (ASMO). The modifications made to the CP&O algorithm leads to an accurate and rapid tracking operation for MPP also in sudden irradiance drops by considering a simple solution. The validity of the proposed MPPT scheme is verified and compared to the conventional P&O and validated for irradiance and load changes by means of simulations under MAT LAB/Simulink (R).
