Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles against diabetes was carried out using Allium cepa. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-visible spectroscopy, FT-IR and SEM. The results proved that the synthesized particles were spherical in shape and nano in size. The study on the in vitro antidiabetic activities revealed that the particles have higher level of alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities. In addition, it also showed a better antioxidant activity and less cytotoxicity. It was concluded that the green synthesized silver nanoparticles can be used as a promising phyto-medicine for the treatment of diabetes. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
