The hydroxyl radical ((OH)-O-center dot) in the endoplasmic reticulum has not been studied thoroughly due to the lack of proper methods. Here, an endoplasmic reticulum-targeting fluorescent probe for detecting (OH)-O-center dot is reported. With this probe, the action of (OH)-O-center dot in the endoplasmic reticulum has been imaged in living cells.
