NH3 is one of the most used materials in the industry, mainly as a refrigerant. However, accidents related to NH3 exposure to workers, the public, and the environment had been reported and caused disadvantages. NH3 is a hazardous material with the consequence of exposure ranging from injuries and fatality. The release of NH3 from storage tanks has a potential hazard to workers and people near the plant. Liquid NH3 is released easily into the environment because it can turn into a gas at room temperature. To reduce the impact of NH3 leakage, the industry has conducted a mitigation plan based on risk reduction. However, the mitigation plan is designed without consideration of its correlation to risk distribution. Therefore, the goals of this project are to obtain risk distribution of the NH3 leakage event by modeling the consequences with the Gaussian dispersion model, to calculate the probability of failure using fault Tree Analysis, to calculate the risk in each risk distribution and plan the mitigating acts on each distribution.
