Novel heavy metal adsorbent based on poly(ionic liquid) was developed for Cr(VI) removal. This new material bears the 1,2,3-triazole moiety responsible for metal adsorption. It was synthesized through copper-catalyzed cycloaddition of terminal alkyne-azide monomers and consequently underwent quaternization and anion metathesis. Poly(3-methyl-4-pentaoxyethylene-1,2,3-triazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulphonyl)imide) exhibited a glass transition temperature of - 31 degrees C and a thermally stable property (T-d10 = 335 degrees C). The kinetic adsorption process of Cr(VI) on the PIL was well described by a pseudo-second-order model suggesting that the Cr(VI) adsorption was controlled by chemical interactions. Langmuir isotherm model describes the adsorption of Cr(VI) on the PIL as monolayer type of adsorption with an adsorption capacity of 13.545 mg g(-1 )at ambient temperature.
