The processes of mechanochemical synthesis of magnesium molybdate and its mechanochemical reduction by magnesium with the formation of the Mo/MgO composite, followed by separation of highly dispersed molybdenum, were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy methods. It has been shown that molybdenum separated from magnesium oxide is highly dispersed, with particles being close to spherical in shape and from 50 to 100 nm in size. They are aggregated into larger particles ranging in size from 1 to 10 mu m. The magnesium content in the highly dispersed molybdenum powder, determined by energy dispersive analysis, is less than 2%. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
