In this study, activated carbon (AC) supported Pd and PdAl bimetallic catalysts were prepared and tested for direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The PdAl/AC catalyst showed higher H2O2 productivity (80 mol H2O2 kg(cat)(-1) h(-1)) than Pd/AC catalyst. The characterization results indicated that the addition of Al not only enhanced the content of Pd-II, but also increased the dispersion of Pd. In PdAl/AC catalysts, Pd was finely dispersed on carbon surface and consisted entirely of the adsorbed PdCl2. It is expected that the increase in the dispersion of Pd and the content of Pd-II in the fresh catalyst is critical for the improvement of H2O2 production.
