Can AI care?

This paper analyzes Artificial Intelligence through the lens of gender, and more particularly of the Ethics of Care, to show that the problems posed by Artificial Intelligence go much further than the gender biases to which they are often reduced. While these biases are not questionable and must be corrected, I argue that the issue here is not only conjunctural, as it is generally considered. I demonstrate that it is also structural by relying on two complementary elements: on the one hand, by refining the analysis of gender bias and, on the other hand, by looking at care robots including AI. I conclude by showing that it is not only the objective development of AI that needs to be questioned, but also our subjective relationship with AI and the properties we attribute to AI.
