To recover waste heat of a marine diesel engine (MDE), a cogeneration system is proposed to provide the required power and freshwater of the crew. The new devised unit includes an absorption power cycle (APC) and a humidification-dehumidification desalination (HDH) unit. The energy needed for simultaneous production of power and freshwater is provided through recycling the dissipated heat of the jacket water and exhaust gases of the MDE. Using genetic algorithm procedure via multi-objective optimization, the optimum first-law and secondlaw efficiencies and sum unit cost of product (SUCP) of the system are computed91.84%, 24.33% and 192.7$. GJ(-1), respectively. Also a precise parametric analysis is performed to discern the behavior of the objective functions by altering the input parameters.
