The article focuses on using ranks of original auxiliary variable as an additional auxiliary variable to propose an efficient population variance estimator. Bias and mean square error expressions of the proposed estimator, up to first order of approximation, are obtained. Efficiency comparisons with various existing estimators are conducted theoretically and numerically.
In this article, we are concerned with the utilization of ranks of original auxiliary variable as an additional auxiliary variable and thus we propose an efficient estimator of population variance. Expressions for bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator are obtained, up to first order of approximation. Efficiency comparison of proposed estimator with that of the various existing estimators is performed theoretically and numerically as well.
