Untangling the interactions of sustainability targets: synergies and trade-offs in the Northern European context

Jari Lyytimaki et al.

Summary: Agenda 2030 and SDGs are essential for sustainable development policies, with a focus on identifying trade-offs and synergies between targets to improve implementation efficiency. Results from Finland show that while most targets exhibit synergistic interactions, there are serious trade-offs in policies aimed at economic growth and renewable energy use. Further methodological advances are needed to ensure transparent and reliable assessment of interactions within limited resources and relevant decision-making.

Arttu Malkamaki et al.

Summary: Policy forums can facilitate information exchange and learning among actors with diverse knowledge bases, reducing the impact of echo chambers. The study found that echo chambers play a significant role in determining information exchange ties, with reputational influence potentially strengthening them. Additionally, the more forums actors co-participate in, the more likely they are to exchange information.
