The effects of joints on the moisture behaviour of rain exposed wood: a numerical study with experimental validation

J. Niklewski et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of moisture conditions at joints in timber structures on the overall durability, using a validated numerical model. The model provides a simple yet accurate method to estimate moisture conditions in certain types of wood joints, and has been shown to be consistent with experimental data. Spatial distribution of time spent above 25% moisture content was also calculated to assess the model's suitability for durability applications.
