A recently identified post-translational modification, lysine epsilon-N-benzoylation, was genetically encoded into recombinant proteins in both E. coli and mammalian cells, allowing for the modification of histone proteins and the analysis of sirtuin debenzoylase activity.
Lysine epsilon-N-benzoylation is a recently identified PTM occurring on histone proteins, and herein we genetically encoded epsilon-N-benzoyl-lysine (BzK) into recombinant proteins in E. coli and mammalian cells, and applied it for the modification of histone proteins and the analysis of sirtuin debenzoylase activity.
