Heat treatment temperature-induced microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance of Inconel 718 produced by selective laser melting additive manufacturing

Yusuf Karabulut et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing (AM) is becoming more widespread in various industries, and this study investigates the mechanical and microstructural properties of metal parts fabricated through AM, particularly focusing on Inconel 718 specimens fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) with different heat treatment temperatures. The research findings demonstrate that heat treatment temperature can alter the microstructural aspects of the specimens and significantly enhance the microhardness and wear resistance due to the final state of microstructure. Furthermore, a comparative study shows that Inconel 718 specimens fabricated by SLM can exhibit much higher wear resistance than conventionally produced Inconel 718 if heat-treated at specific temperatures.

Tribological Behavior of In Situ TiC/Graphene/Graphite/Ti6Al4V Matrix Composite Through Laser Cladding

Zhanyong Zhao et al.

Summary: The TiC/graphene/graphite/Ti6Al4V composite coating was prepared using laser cladding, showing improved wear resistance and changing wear mechanisms under different loads, transitioning from abrasive and oxidation wear to delamination, fatigue, and oxidation wear. The in-situ reaction between graphene and titanium formed feathery TiC, enhancing the coating's tribological behavior.
