Influence of structural variation of salamo-based ligand on supramolecular architectures, Hirshfeld analyses, and fluorescence properties of new tetranuclear NiII complexes

Xin Xu et al.

Summary: Two new tetranuclear Ni-II complexes were synthesized and characterized, with the Ni-II atoms exhibiting distorted octahedral geometries. The degree of distortion of the ligands differed between complexes 1 and 2, indicating varying interaction of Ni-II ions. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed differences in the percentages of C-H/H-C and H-H/H-H contacts between the two complexes, with the O-H/H-O hydrogen bonds being considerably weak.

Ji-Fa Wang et al.

Summary: A novel structurally characterized salamo-like ligand H2L has been designed and synthesized, leading to the formation of Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes. The Cu(II) complex shows a four-coordinated twisted quadrilateral geometry, while the Ni(II) complex exhibits a slightly distorted octahedral geometry with six-coordination, resulting in the formation of chiral MOFs. Spectroscopic analyses and magnetic analyses were carried out to study the properties of these complexes.

Summary: Reactive sulfur species (RSS) play essential roles in pathophysiological processes and are difficult to differentiate simultaneously using a single fluorescent probe. The mitochondria-targetable fluorescent probe NIR-NBD can distinguish Cys/Hcy/H2S, GSH, and SO2 by displaying multiple signal patterns and exhibits excellent selectivity and sensitivity. It has been successfully applied for monitoring mitochondrial SO2 and biothiols, visualizing endogenous SO2 generation, and exploring the role of biothiols in apoptosis.
