Human and novel coronavirus infections in children: a review

Nipunie Rajapakse et al.

Summary: Coronaviruses cause a spectrum of symptoms from mild infection to severe illness and death, with children commonly infected by four human coronaviruses leading to mild upper respiratory tract infections. The novel coronaviruses pose a higher risk to older adults and those with underlying conditions, while children tend to be asymptomatic or experience mild symptoms typically.

Characteristics and outcomes of neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection in the UK: a prospective national cohort study using active surveillance

Chris Gale et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the incidence, characteristics, transmission, and outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in neonates who received inpatient hospital care in the UK. The findings showed that neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection was uncommon in babies admitted to hospital, with low likelihood of infection following birth to a mother with perinatal SARS-CoV-2 infection and rare possible vertical transmission. The high proportion of babies from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic groups requires further investigation.

Distinct antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 in children and adults across the COVID-19 clinical spectrum

Stuart P. Weisberg et al.

Summary: This study found distinct antibody responses in children and adults after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Adult COVID-19 cohorts showed a broader range of antibody responses, while children predominantly generated antibodies specific for the S protein and had reduced neutralizing activity compared to adults.
