A Stable N-Heterocyclic Silylene with a 1,1′-Ferrocenediyl Backbone

Nadine Weyer et al.

Summary: The N-heterocyclic silylene shows a remarkable combination of thermal stability and reactivity towards small molecules, producing different follow-up products in reactions with CO2, N2O, H2O, NH3, and FcPH(2). Unexpectedly, the reaction with H3BNH3 results in B-H activation instead of N-H activation. DFT results suggest dramatically different mechanisms for these H-X insertions.

Partnering a Three-Coordinate Gallium Cation with a Hydroborate Counter-Ion for the Catalytic Hydrosilylation of CO2

Alexa Caise et al.

Summary: A novel gallium hydride has been synthesized and shown to insert carbon dioxide into the Ga-H bond under mild conditions, catalyzing the reductive hydrosilylation of CO2 when combined with B(C6F5)3. The catalytic system exhibits enhanced activity in the presence of excess B(C6F5)3, but with reduced selectivity.

Activation of CS2 and CO2 by Silylium Cations

Carsten Jenne et al.

Summary: The study found that the hydride-bridged silylium cation, stabilized by a weakly coordinating anion, undergoes unexpected consecutive reactions with CS2 and CO2 in the presence of excess silane, resulting in methane and [(Et3Si)3S](+) cation as final products. By conducting various experiments and structural determinations, along with quantumchemical calculations in gas phase and solution, a detailed understanding of the reaction cascade was achieved.
