This review paper discusses the significance of nano materials in solar desalination, the efficient conversion of solar energy into heat, and the importance of energy exchange and storage materials in the process.
The solar power is most prominent energy source for the solar desalination processes and the productiv-ity of the distilled water depends upon the proper utilization of solar energy into useful form of heat. To absorb maximum solar radiation, energy efficient nano materials were developed and used in renewable and sustainable energy applications like solar stills and solar steam generation etc. Recently the nano materials with energy storage, maximum energy transfer, and high broadband absorption characteristics exhibited accelerating evaporation rate in solar desalination. In this current review paper, energy exchange and energy storage materials including nano embodied PCMs (phase change materials), nano fluids and nano particles, nano structures with efficient steam generation and sensible heat storage mate-rials for solar desalination were discussed.
