Summary: This study investigates the inductive effect of diurnal motions of the Earth's magnetic poles caused by Earth's rotation using geomagnetic indices. It finds that the amplitude of geomagnetic effects is roughly twice as large in the southern hemisphere compared to the northern due to the eccentric dipole geomagnetic pole offset. The results suggest that the hemispheric asymmetry in the geomagnetic pole offsets from the rotational axis is the dominant factor in driving Universal Time variations and hemispheric differences in geomagnetic activity.
