Power of Infrared and Raman Spectroscopies to Characterize Metal-Organic Frameworks and Investigate Their Interaction with Guest Molecules

Konstantin Hadjiivanov et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with various functionalities and porous structures are suitable for a wide range of applications. Vibrational spectroscopy (IR and Raman) plays a crucial role in characterizing MOF materials and studying their interaction with gases, highlighting both advantages and limitations of the technique. By combining IR and Raman spectroscopies with other techniques, the structure, properties, and reactivity of MOFs can be explicitly established.

Synergistic effect of catalyst and plasma on CO2 decomposition in a dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor

Peiyu Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, a coaxial cylindrical dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor was used to investigate the effects of electrode materials and catalyst on CO2 decomposition. It was found that aluminum rod as inner electrode and copper foil as outer electrode performed better due to their thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. Perovskite-type catalysts combined with plasma discharge showed enhanced CO2 conversion due to synergistic effects.

Synthesis of nickel and cobalt oxide nanoparticles by pulsed underwater spark discharges

Thomas Merciris et al.

Summary: Electrical discharges in liquids are considered an efficient method for nanoparticle synthesis through controlled electrode erosion. This study used spark discharges between various electrodes in distilled water to synthesize Co and Ni nanoparticles and their oxides. Analysis of the nanoparticles synthesized under different pulse width and voltage amplitude conditions revealed the inability to produce Co-Ni nanoalloys, but the presence of core-shell nanoparticles among Ni and Co nanoparticles.

Anoxic/oxic membrane bioreactor assisted by electrocoagulation for the treatment of azo-dye containing wastewater

Mauana Ravadelli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of an anoxic-oxic electro-membrane bioreactor for treating azo-dye containing wastewater. Results showed that the application of electrocoagulation substantially improved dye removal performance, increased nitrifying activity, and enhanced filterability of the mixed liquor. Additionally, the energy efficiency in terms of dye removal was better when electrocoagulation was applied.

N-Doped few-layer graphene encapsulated Pt-based bimetallic nanoparticles via solution plasma as an efficient oxygen catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction

Phu Quoc Phan et al.

Summary: The N-doped few-layer graphene encapsulated Pt-based bimetallic nanoparticles were successfully synthesized via the solution plasma (SP) method. The synthesis strategy exhibited fine core-shell structured nanoparticles with acceptable electrocatalytic activity towards the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and excellent durability, possibly attributed to the synergistic effect of the Pt-based bimetallic core and N-doped graphene shell containing high amounts of pyridinic-N and quaternary-N.
