Uncertainty of ENSO-amplitude projections in CMIP5 and CMIP6 models

Goratz Beobide-Arsuaga et al.

Summary: There is a significant debate on how the amplitude of the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) may change in response to global warming in the twenty-first century. Model projections exhibit a large spread, with internal variability being the main contributor to uncertainty in the first three decades. Total uncertainty increases from CMIP5 to CMIP6, with model uncertainty decreasing and scenario uncertainty increasing.

Arctic Warming Revealed by Multiple CMIP6 Models: Evaluation of Historical Simulations and Quantification of Future Projection Uncertainties

Ziyi Cai et al.

Summary: The study indicates that significant Arctic warming is expected in the future, but there are large intermodel spread and uncertainties in CMIP6 models, with the cold bias in the oceanic regions being the main contributor to model uncertainties.

Selecting CMIP6-Based Future Climate Scenarios for Impact and Adaptation Studies

Hideo Shiogama et al.

Summary: A novel method was developed to select a small subset of GCM projections for impact assessment studies, ensuring a wide capture of uncertainty range. These selected simulations will provide better climate scenarios for impact and adaptation studies compared to previous projects.
