Canopy Position Has a Stronger Effect than Tree Species Identity on Phyllosphere Bacterial Diversity in a Floodplain Hardwood Forest

Martina Herrmann et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of canopy position and tree species on the phyllosphere microbiome in a floodplain hardwood forest in Germany. The results showed strong effects of canopy position on phyllosphere bacterial communities, with Actinobacteria dominating in contrast to other temperate or tropical forests.

Diana Marciulyniene et al.

Summary: This study assessed the belowground fungal communities of several common tree species in forest nurseries in Europe, revealing differences in fungal community composition between coniferous and deciduous tree species, with conifers generally exhibiting higher fungal taxa richness.

Different community compositions between obligate and facultative oomycete plant parasites in a landscape-scale metabarcoding survey

Anna Maria Fiore-Donno et al.

Summary: This study investigated the diversity and distribution of soil oomycetes at the landscape scale in temperate grassland and forest, showing that a majority of hemibiotrophic plant pathogens are present in both types of ecosystems. Soil type and mineral soil C/N ratio were identified as the most influential factors in shaping oomycete communities. Edaphic conditions and management intensification in forest triggered different responses in the relative abundances of obligate biotrophs and hemibiotrophs.
