The importance of oxidized W species in WSe2 catalysts for HER was revealed for the first time. Through a specifically designed solvothermal strategy, a hybrid-phase WSe2 dominated by 1T/1T' and stabilized oxygen species was obtained, achieving outstanding activity and durability for HER.
