Glass fiber-epoxy interactions in the presence of silane: A molecular dynamics study

Sanjib C. Chowdhury et al.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between epoxy resin and glass fiber in the presence of monolayer glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxy silane was investigated through molecular dynamics simulations. The presence of silane introduced covalent bonding interactions in the fiber-epoxy interphase, significantly enhancing composite strength and energy absorption capability. The simulation results suggest that a silane number density of 1-2 nm(-2) is optimal for achieving high strength and energy absorption in the composite system studied.

Mechanical properties of basalt and polypropylene fibre-reinforced alkali-activated slag concrete

Xianyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical properties of basalt and PP fibre-reinforced alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete, finding that the dosage and length of the fibers have significant impact on the strength of the concrete. It was observed that for AAS material, the tensile strength characterization through splitting tensile and flexural strength tests may show significant differences due to different strength calculation formulas and large shrinkage. Additionally, PP fibers were found to be less effective in improving the strength of AAS concrete compared to basalt fibers of the same length and dosage.

Investigation on the alkali resistance of basalt fiber and its textile in different alkaline environments

Qingxuan Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a fundamental investigation on the alkali resistance of basalt fiber and its textile in different alkaline solutions. The results show that the alkali resistance of basalt fiber is superior to C-glass but slightly weaker than AR-glass, with different corrosion mechanisms in NaOH and cement solutions. Calculation using dissolution kinetics models can effectively evaluate the dissolution behavior of basalt fiber in NaOH solution.

An experimental study on hybrid fiber reinforced concrete beams subjected to torsion

P. Saravanakumar et al.

Summary: Experimental investigations showed that mechanical performance of concrete was significantly improved with the addition of hybrid fibers up to 1% by volume of concrete. Torsional strength in both cracking and post-cracking states was enhanced in hybrid fiber reinforced concrete, depending on the volume of fiber content in concrete. This study suggests the potential advantages of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete in structural applications, effectively improving the performance of concrete.
