Effect of biomass immobilization and reduced graphene oxide on the microbial community changes and nitrogen removal at low temperatures

Summary: The slow growth rate and high optimal temperatures pose significant limitations to the application of anammox processes in treating mainstream wastewater. The addition of RGO to the SA matrix affects the mechanical properties of gel beads, with a protective effect observed for immobilized biomass. Changes in microbial community composition and gene abundance were observed after implementing new process conditions, with denitrification playing a role in nitrogen transformation within the beads.
