Dissection of closely linked QTLs controlling stigma exsertion rate in rice by substitution mapping

Quanya Tan et al.

Summary: Through substitution mapping, two pairs of closely linked QTLs controlling stigma exsertion rate were dissected and fine mapped on chromosomes 2 and 3. The additive effects and epistatic interactions of the four QTLs on stigma exsertion rate were identified, laying a foundation for cloning the genes controlling this trait.

Current Perspectives on Introgression Breeding in Food Legumes

Aditya Pratap et al.

Summary: Breeding efforts in food legumes have been focused on exploiting genetic variation within the primary genepool, resulting in a narrow genetic base. Introgression from crop wild relatives, landraces, and exotic germplasm has been successful in widening the genetic base and discovering hidden variability. This method has led to the development of improved cultivars in various food legume crops, indicating the potential to capitalize on genetic variation for commercial development.
