Summary: Continuous expansion of road and bridge networks presents a growing challenge for maintenance agencies in ensuring accident-free transportation operations, especially in developing economies and port/harbor areas. Assessment of aging infrastructure integrity is crucial for safe operations, and wireless sensor networks offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for structural health monitoring. This article introduces a vibration analysis-based method using WSNs for SHM of civil infrastructures, successfully implemented on a 20-year-old concrete bridge in Karachi, Pakistan. The proposed scheme can enable remote monitoring of civil infrastructure using low-power WSNs with minimal intervention.
